[add comment] [edit] Mary Wetherell's name and parentage [4 March 2025]Mary Wetherell married William Feake at St. Mary Woolnoth Church in London. Her name in the register was Marye Wetherhyll. I have the clerk's copy of her original will, in which her name is Mary Feake. Even if there were a mix-up in her marriage record, her real name would have been used in her will. Also, in the time period in which she lived, women did not have middle names. There is no evidence upon which to give her the name of Margaret. Her father remains unknown. Thomas Wetherell names no children in his will but from the baptismal and burial records of St. Mary Woolnoth, is appears that none of his children survived to the age of marriage. Thomas's brother, John, does name a daughter, Mary, in his will of 1578 but does not show her to be married. Both Thomas and John Wetherell were goldsmiths. William Feake was a wealthy goldsmith. If John had been her father, it would seem that he would have used her married name, especially since he provided the married name of another daughter. It is possible Mary was a daughter of a deceased brother or cousin who was living with one of her uncles/cousins in the parish of St. Mary Woolnoth, and thus was married there. That is just a possibility, of course. As it is, her parents remain unknown, as there is no known record of her birth.--Lanier 19:54, 7 February 2012 (EST)
