[add comment] [edit] Crandall book [3 February 2011]The presentation in the Personal History section is nice and dramatic, but I don't see that John C. Crandall's book actually says what is attributed to it. Is there a page number where it occurs? On page 3, it says that a "Mildred Small of Etna, Pa. states she found in the records in Washington, D.C. that the first wife of Elder John was Mary Opp who died 20 Aug. 1669." As near as I can tell, all the author's own statements seem to clearly say she is unknown. I cannot find any statement about her birth in 1625 at all. Page 3 is the only index entry for Opp in the index. Heritage Quest has the 1949 edition, in case there are multiple editions. "Records in Washington, D.C." isn't exactly a helpful citation of a source, is it? --Jrich 21:18, 3 February 2011 (EST) |
