Person talk:Mary Bates (131)

speedy delete [16 September 2021]

Clearly this page should not be deleted. It represents a real person who existed and has been adequately documented. It no longer represents the work of only one person. The request appears to be motivated by an unreasonable sense of ownership for a collaborative, shared website. --Jrich 15:42, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

I'm not demanding that Mary Bates be deleted, I'm asking for it to be deleted. I did 99% of the work in creating the profile, which was done in the spirit of collaboration. But within a brief 24 hour period of using the site, I was soured by Jrich, who decided to dictate: "The note is wrong, the cited find a grave memorial does NOT say that, so there is no need for the note"..... "NO SUCH MEMORIAL EXISTS." CAPITALIZING WORDS IS AKIN TO YELLING, & is inappropriate in general, & for a new user, makes a bad impression. There were, in fact, two memorials attached to Jeremiah Hatch on findagrave, one Mary Bates, the other Mary Stearns.

Please delete this profile & reattach Mary Stearns.

Thank you.--WERELATE1945 17:17, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

The discussion above is amply covered in other places, though to be balanced here, the "cited find a grave memorial does NOT say that" is a true statement, and the full text of the second note also said "not found by searching for Mary Hatch d. 1777", which is also true. The caps were used because the previous two responses had been to simply replace the note with no changes or explanation, which is not exactly a collaborative response. So it still appeared to be incorrect, presumably a vestigial observation based on an old version of the memorial, since there clearly was a memorial page that was right and in the expected place that did not fit the note.
When the explanation finally came, referring to a Find A Grave memorial named "Mary Stearns" (which is out of compliance with typical Find A Grave titling), the note was not deleted. If the memorial had been specified better in the note, the non-standard titling might not have had a chance to cause confusion. Further details are found on the users talk page, and viewing of the history will show that virtually all the genealogically important stuff was left unchanged, i.e., as the sources seemed well-explained.
But needless to say, the unfortunate process that got us here is not justification for removing a page that appears correct. "You irrevocably agree to release your contributions..." In any event, it would be recreated later, since it appears to be correct and a useful contribution to the community tree. --Jrich 18:41, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Jrich just can't leave it alone...can he/she.... probably he. He/she must defend himself, by putting me down & blaming me for my woefully inadequate notes.... I didn't do this right or I didn't do that right, whatever it takes to deflect attention away from the fact he was rude & disrespectful, & continues to be so....

Please read the note I left on his "talk" page; please review the history of Mary Bates-131; & please see my "talk" page for the full story.

Regardless, this is my last post (stress, stress!!).... it can not be his last.... defensiveness will compel him to comment.... again!!! But I agree... if you delete Mary's profile, Mary's profile will be re-created again... by Jrich, as he has no sense of humility or boundaries... the humility that led me to leave Mary Stearns to begin with, as this was someones contribution & there should at least be a conversation about detaching/deleting it.... no?! Not for Jrich....

Again, I'm not demanding that the admins delete Mary Bates, but I am asking... please show me that there are some folks on WeRelate who know what I'm talking about.... please?

Thank you for considering this...

Having been messaged by this user to look at this request, I see no reason why it should be deleted. The family record has been approved, and the WeRelate community thanks you. We're sorry to see you go.--Amelia 05:18, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
