wrong census [6 November 2013]
I believe the 1870 census entry is the wrong person. Notice that in it [1] Lizzie Saunders is shown, age 18, with apparent mother and father James and Elizabeth, and brother George H. In 1860 that same Lizzie Saunders was living in Kingsfield, Maine [2], still with same mother, father and brother. This Lizzie Saunders is born in Salem, Mass 13 Apr 1852. [3]. The Lizzie Saunders who married Jacob Stanley was born 20 Aug 1852 per cemetery records. While that is not conclusive, I believe she is the Lizzie Sanders in the household of Horace Stanley and Lydia McCrillis in 1860. At a minimum it shows there are two candidates, so some further connection is needed to show it is the one in the 1870 census besides matching the name. --Jrich 22:50, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- I can't find a marriage record. It should be 1870, since the 1900 census says Jacob and her were married for 30 years, but I can't locate either a Lizzie Saunders or a Lizzie Stanley that I think is a match in the 1870 census. The records I find of her children are vague about her birthplace: they say Massachusetts, but don't mention the city (e.g., marriage record of daughter Nora here). This pdf file, p. 887, gives her birth as 20 Aug 1852, death as 20 Oct 1934, which is enough to suggest she isn't the Lizzie of the purported 1870 census entry (who was born in April). Is she is the Lizzie shown in the household of a childless couple in 1860? If so, one would suspect she is a niece of one of the two. Given that both her and Lydia are shown with a birth in Mass. and that Lydia's birthplace is sometimes listed as Lowell, Mass., one could suspect that is where she comes from, but nothing concrete can be found to prove that. A Patrick and Catherine Saunders of Lowell had a child Elizabeth in Lowell in 1855, and then Catherine died in 1859, which may explain why it could be her child was living with another couple in 1860, but what is the connection with Catherine and this couple? Censuses don't have enough detail to help, though 1900 does confirm Aug as the birth month: 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930. --Jrich 05:10, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
