[add comment] [edit] Removed discussions to Talk page [15 August 2010]I removed a discussion of the spelling of Prence. The spelling of Gov. Prence's name is subject of many discussions in print and one would think it better done on his page, since he lived under that name his whole life. He spelled it Prence and that is how literature commonly spells it. But surname pages at WeRelate should enable searches using "Prince" to find everything just fine. It just doesn't seem to me that we need to spend all of Judith's page discussing this instead of issues that pertain more to Judith. "She was the daughter of Gov. Thomas Prence. Sources differ on who her mother was: Mary Collier is named by some. Others say her mother was Patience Brewster. The confusion, as seen in Savage's paragraph below, is understandable." Given that Savage only shows three wives, not four, he is certainly going to be confused. Patience Brewster is known to have died by 1634 (see the second source, Great Migration Begins, listed on Thomas Prence's page), so if the birth of Judith is within a decade of the estimated date given on this page (1650), she would not be a daughter of Patience Brewster, and such a statement would only be made by someone who did not have full knowledge of Thomas Prence's wives, as well. Since this statement about Patience Brewster is not attributed, one can only assume it is some website, and, in my opinion, it is not really necessary to waste time on what some poorly researched website says. It seems like this is an artificial issue, making noise where none is needed. The real issue is between 2nd wife Mary Collier and 3rd wife Apphia (Quick) Freeman, but that was not the discussion removed, and given that all the dates concerning Judith (except her marriage to Isaac Barker 1665) are estimated, not much of a concrete nature can be stated. --Jrich 10:19, 15 August 2010 (EDT) On 7 Aug 2022, user Jrich chose to defer resolution of issues on this page, including the issue "Born after mother died". Other users should feel free to resolve the issues if they have the appropriate expertise and access to sources. Please do not remove this template unless you are Jrich, or if all issues on the page are resolved. Comments left by Jrich: death of 2nd wife and marriage to 3rd wife unknown but between 1644 and 1662, so unclear if this is really after mother's death, or even which was her mother |
