Person talk:Joseph Richards (4)

Something is wrong?? [26 September 2010]

The death date "Bet. 1651 and 1679" on this page comes from the fact that Joseph was mentioned in his father's will, not in his mother's will. He is shown with two wives, Susan and Sarah.

In Weymouth VRs, Joseph and Susan have a son Joseph b. 1676. Then Joseph and Sarah have children b. 1684, 1686, 1689, 1694, at least some of these being clearly too soon to be the children of the Joseph born in 1676. These records also show the death of a Joseph in 1710.

The question is: are these all the same Joseph, or have two different Josephs been combined into one? To be only one person would mean his mother ignored him in her will and he had multiple children after he was 50. It would seem far more likely that the Joseph who had the children and d. 1710 was a nephew of the Joseph who was born in 1636 and probably d. bef. 1679 without heirs. --Jrich 11:06, 26 September 2010 (EDT)

Cutter in his Families of Massachusetts says that Joseph was a son of William Richards and his wife Grace, an unrelated Richards family. So this does appear to be two different Josephs combined into one page. --Jrich 11:10, 26 September 2010 (EDT)
