Person talk:Joseph Adams (10)

confusing two Josephs [15 February 2011]

I am removing the baptism in 1659 in Cambridge and the death in Menotomy (West Cambridge, now Arlington). I believe these facts belong to the Joseph Adams that was son of John Adams of Cambridge, not the Joseph that was son of George Adams.

Evidence for the death date is based on the widow of Joseph Adams of Cambridge, Margaret Addams remarrying Lt. Daniel Dean 27 Dec 1705 [VR Cambridge, p. 2:12]. That Joseph had married in Cambridge to Margaret Eames 21 Feb 1687-8. Since she remarried in 1705, that Joseph must have died by then, and the death in 1701 would be an excellent match.

Bond's Genealogies of Watertown says George Adams had two sons born at Watertown and moved to Lexington in 1664. Thus it seems unlikely that the baptism in Cambridge in 1659 would apply to George's son who would have been living in Watertown when the other Joseph lived in Cambridge. No information is given in Bond about what became of Joseph, son of George.

This page has a comment "DEATH: Conflict on Death Date: abt 1738" Unfortunately no source is given so not sure where this 1738 date comes from, having checked Cambridge, Lexington, and Arlington without success, but the comment itself is an indication that data from two different Josephs are being confused. --Jrich 00:17, 16 February 2011 (EST)
