Other John Mirick/Merick's in New England at the same time [29 August 2011]

There appear to have been two other John Mirick/Merick's in New England at the time, neither of whom seems to have been the father or son of John of Charlestown.

The first was a John Mirick/Merricke of Hingham, who died 2 Jul 1647, leaving a widow Elizabeth, who died in Roxbury 25 Aug 1650 [Genealogy of the Merrick--Mirick--Myrick Family of Massachusetts, p. 99, quoting the history of Hingham]. His will, dated 24 Jun 1647, mentions his wife Elisebeth, a sister Elisebeth Hilleard/Hiller, his sister's children John and Anne Scathe, a niece Elisebeth Merrick, and John and Anne Fisher, but no children of his own [NEGHR, 7:173]. His widow Elizabeth's will mentions some of these same people plus others (who might be her siblings or her children from an earlier marriage), but no Merrick children [NEGHR, 7:232-33].

The second was a John Merick who married Elizabeth Wyborne, daughter of Thomas Weyborne of Boston, 3 April 1655 in Cambridge [NEGHR, 11:200; Genealogy of the Merrick--Mirick--Myrick Family of Massachusetts, p. 100]. Since John of Charlestown had children by wife Hopestill both before and after 1655, including a son named John in 1655, the John Merick who married Elizabeth Wyborne cannot be the same person nor a father or son of John Mirick of Charlestown.
