death date [27 January 2011]

I cannot reconcile the death date posted here with no sources, 14 Jul 1756, in Crown Point, NY, with my reading of the historical events. I posted the citation of the Lane Genealogies which says John is mentioned as dead by Oct 1756 but does not give the actual date of death. Wikipedia seems to indicate there was no expedition against Crown Point in 1756, that it was in 1755, but never reached the fort. There were battles in 1755, but none appear to be mentioned in 1756 because the British were changing leaders resulting in no action that year, and the ones in 1755 were at Lake George, not at Crown Point, which was merely the unrealized objective. A separate book on the French and Indian Wars says the same thing. --Jrich 12:47, 27 January 2011 (EST)
