Person talk:John Anthony (6)

Probably not the son of Dr. John Anthony [4 May 2013]

I have been going through the work Ancestral Lines, which has a discussion of the Anthony family. The author makes a good case that John Anthony of Portsmouth was NOT the son of the London Dr. Boyer notes:

"ii. John, alleged son, but not mentioned on the plaque or in father's will, b. Hempstead, England, a place not appropriate to the Anthony family..", and then in the following paragraph says "In the total absence of proof that John Anthony was actually a members of this family one might ask if a brother of Elizabeth and Rebecca was likely to have been born as early as 1607". Then in the following discussion of John the immigrant himself he says "There is no proof that John Anthony, the immigrant, was the son of Dr. John Anthony, above".

This is the newest work I have seen on this family, and I have never seen proof that John the immigrant was related to him. I will probably remove the link but if anyone has any comment to make on this I am pleased to read it.

The author also believes that John Anthony is the same John Anthony who was 'left behind' despite being on the Mary & John passenger list. Anderson in GM says that the gap between the 1634 sailing and the first record of the prove John Anthony in Portsmouth could mean that it is a completely different person. --Daniel Maxwell 20:38, 3 May 2013 (EDT)
