Person talk:Dorothy Wheatley (1)

Who were her parents? [10 December 2010]

Charles Arthur Hoppin, in The Bliss Book: A Romantic History of the Bliss Family from the Time of its Beginning, in England, to its Advent into America (1913) identifies Dorothy Wheatley, the wife of Thomas Bliss, as the daughter of John Wheatlie, bailiff (mayor) of Daventry. The entry in the marriage register in Daventry, Northamptonshire for her marriage to Thomas Bliss (reproduced and transcribed in Hoppin's 1913 book) indicates that they were "both of this parish", supporting this identification. I consider it highly unlikely that she was the Dorothy Wheatley baptized in 1591 in Maiden Newton, Dorset, some 200 kilometers away, especially when there is a candidate in the same town.

If no one objects, I will update her record the next time I come by, to remove Frank Wheatley and Mary Fienes as possible parents. I will also make sure that there is a separate record for Dorothy Wheatley the daughter of Frank and Mary. --DataAnalyst 19:47, 9 December 2010 (EST)
