Person talk:Daniel Gunn (6)

Death : Date used [9 September 2014]

Hi Gunnj, I restored the "Aft 19 Jan 1747/48" date to Daniel's page. The more specific the date can be the better. Say for instance, at some point a Distribution of Estate for Daniel's brother is found, ie 15 May 1748 in which Daniel's legacy from his brother's estate states "To the heirs of brother Daniel Gunn.." Even though Daniel likely did not die 19 or 20 Jan 1747/48, we can legitimately say in Daniel's "Date of Death" space.....'bet 19 Jan 1747/48 and 15 May 1748. "After 1747" is much less specific, and doesn't reflect the % of accuracy we have at the moment. --SkippyG 03:36, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Conflicting baptisms not found [6 January 2015]

americanancestors.org reorganized their webpages creating a lot of difficulty with no discernible improvement in my opinion, so given that caveat, I do not see that the baptism is given there as Jan.

Westfield, MA: Baptisms Performed in the Church of Christ, 1679–1836 Vital Records (incl. Bible, Cemetery, Church and SSDI)

Baptism 3/27/1687.

Daniel GUN s. John & Mary

As I read the citations, it was record 1154 from this cited that was the apparent source of the discrepant date. There is no record 1154, this is record 1452. Of course it is just an index and there is no image of the original handwriting and original phrasing that may be viewed. Presumably, if it did at some point say Jan 27, it was the result of somebody misinterpreting "the first month", or some similar phrase.

The citations would be improved if they spent more time telling what the source says. For people that don't have access, or are not sure they are looking at the right thing, especially in issues involving interpretation, taking the time to put what is actually seen in a source is helpful. It also means the source citation will remain useful, and accurately represented, even if edits change the data on the page. --Jrich 21:59, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
