Charles Johnson as Baptist minister [26 September 2012]

I see you've added the Lusk Creek Baptist Church info to Charles Johnson (Sr.), but I think it really belongs to his son, Charles (Jr.), where I've already added it. Charles Jr. was very active in the Baptist Church, especially in Clark County, Indiana, before he moved to Illinois. Charles (Sr) would have been in his 60s, by this time, and was (apparently) being referred to as "old", while Charles (Jr) seems to have been acting more or less as head of the clan.

I don't know where the Johnson family came from (before they moved to Scott County, Kentucky), but there are rumors that they were from Culpeper County, in Virginia. (Charles Jr. moved back to Scott County, Kentucky, but I haven't followed him. Another day, maybe.)

Oops -- rumor says the Johnson family came from Orange County, not Culpeper. There is another rumor (which another researcher and I both consider somewhat questionable), that this Johnson family is related to the Robert Johnson family. --GayelKnott 17:39, 26 September 2012 (EDT)

OK, just a question, were both Charles Johnson's Baptist Ministers? I'll check my books in Orange County, Virginia and see if I see any possible tie-ins....

Not as far as I know. I think Charles Jr. became a member of the Great Crossings Church in Scott County, KY "by experience", but there are at least three, possibly four Johnson families in Scott County, so I've been a bit hesitant to include that in his source. I suspect that this Johnson family moved to Clark County, Indiana with the Jesse Vawter (another Baptist minister) family in 1807, and the Vawter's did come from Orange County, with possible connections to Culpeper. Charles Jr's sister Nancy married Joseph Reese, son of John Reese and Jane Wetherell, so the Orange County connection is possible.
