[add comment] [edit] Union unit [14 April 2011]Which Union regiment did Benjamin serve in? --Amy (Ajcrow) 23:14, 13 April 2011 (EDT) Amy, this is all I found - these two listings at http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=8750&enc=1 U.S. Veterans Gravesites, ca.1775-2006 U.S. Veterans Gravesites, ca.1775-2006 I can try to ask Darrell (the original researcher) but he has become ill and isn't doing any genealogy now. I checked Darrell's site and there is nothing about Benjamin's service there. I must have got that info from one of his earlier emails. Hmm. . .where could we find that widow's application for a pension? --Janiejac 00:49, 14 April 2011 (EDT)
U.S. Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles at ancestry.com
http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=1555&enc=1 Here is another record found at
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=hdssoldiers&ti=0&F11=348&F9=Union&gss=angs-d&rank=0&pcat=WAR_CIVIL&fh=758&h=5564471&recoff=&fsk=CIAADpkAKPYe&bsk=&pgoff=&qid=5ec95d6b50144b92afb1372595a43564 This appears to be when he enlisted on the Union Side as Darrell's research said he deserted the Confederate side in June 1863. The only other item of note is that his mustering out date is the same date of Benjamin's date of death. Finding the actual widow's pension record would solidify this information is correct. There is an index card downloaded from Footnote: On the same type card (similar but not exact found at ancestry.com here: http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=4654&iid=T288_340-2893&fn=&ln=Benjamin+F.+Mowell&st=r&ssrc=&pid=164514 So now we know the widow's pension application number, but where to find it? That should be found to verify that this is actually the same Benjamin who was born in Tennessee. --Janiejac 12:50, 14 April 2011 (EDT) I looked him up on the Illinois Civil War Muster Database. It appears to be the same one. Thanks so much for looking up that info! -- Amy 14:54, 14 April 2011 (EDT) |
