August Ruthenberg- Akron, Ohio [9 August 2013]

I have my husband's grandmother's address/birthday/Christmas List book. She lived most of her life in Akron. She was born 1898 as Margret Hanna Ruthenberg. She has a August Ruthenberg birthday as July 30, 1868 at the same address as her family home. She lived to almost 100 just a few months short. Also listed is a William J Ruthenburg born 2/23/1891. Emma Ruthenberg b.7/24/1902. Ophillia (Tillie)Ruthenberg b. 8/13/1899. Peter Ruthenberg b. 8/20/1909. I believe that August was her dad. Her brother Pete's son, August still lives in that Akron home as far as I know. I am not sure about William but the others are her siblings. They were still alive when I married into the family.

I remember her telling me years ago that her father came with his brothers and sister plus one friend. I believe her mother's name might of been Anna. I have a picture of her in a group of members of the Turner German Club in Akron. Before Margret died here in Florida some cousins asked her daughter to ask who was Margret's grand parents was. She could only remember Uma and Umpa as their names. She died a year or 2 later. They wanted to trace the family.

I have a few more Ruthenbergs with 1890's birthdays and some old addresses of others without years of birth but months and days. I am assuming they were her cousins. This little book is very old and fragile. I dug it out of the trash when the family was going through her stuff. They all thought I was nuts because I got excited about it.

I stumble across you while doing a search for something else last night. I have not researched this part of my family tree. I have only worked on my parents. I felt you might want this info. to help connect the dots.--JANelson 23:48, 5 August 2013 (EDT)

Hi!

Thank you for your kind comment about your Ruthenberg's. This is my mother's maiden name!

Surely we are from the same family. I believe that August Ruthenberg is a younger brother of my G GF, Wilhelm F Ruthenberg. I have heard the name "Tillie" in my family when I was very young. Johann R and his wife Marie had a large number of kids, (I just looked, she had 10 children, 9 living in 1910), and the cluster of Ruthenbergs in Akron are likely their descendants. I know from direct family memory that Wilhelminne and Ferdinand are siblings of Wilhelm, but I think it very likely that August is a sibling, as I said!

I dont have direct proof of this conjecture but I think everything points this way!
