Person talk:Arnoul de Metz (1)

Enumeration? [27 March 2011]

This shows an alternate name as "Arnoul XXVII , Bishop of Metz". What could this possibly refer to. He was certainly not the 27th Arnulf nor the 27th Bishop. He wasn't the 27th of anything that I can think of, as his descendants began the Carolingian dynasty, superseding the Merovingians.

Sure, that's weird. I tried to clear away some of the clearly duplicated stuff and the spurious "Burundi" location ("Y" as a marker for died was turned into Burundi). I hadn't come to any conclusions about what to do with this person or their dubious ancestry... --Jrm03063 20:48, 26 March 2011 (EDT)

His ancestry is questioned by many who are more knowledgeable than you or me. It has been discussed at length on Soc.genealogy.medieval for example. Two of the foremost experts on the Carolingians seem to admit that it has not been proved. Dr Katharine Stephanie Benedicta Keats-Rohan and Christian Settipani have hypothesized upon it, but without definite proof. Maybe best to say Bodegisel and unknown--Scot 15:02, 27 March 2011 (EDT)

Then by all means, I defer to your sense of the state of things. WR isn't the place for super cutting edge work anyway. If someone with the skills and resources to be working in this area were seeking to publish - they probably wouldn't choose WR - at least not at first! --Jrm03063 19:11, 27 March 2011 (EDT)
