[add comment] [edit] Not the daughter of Deacon John Doane? [18 October 2008]Sources need to be given to justify this connection, please! Ann is not listed in Deacon John's will (living to the age of 95 he may well have outlived several children, but neither did he mention her heirs, as he did for his deceased daughter Lydia), nor is she listed in this family by Source:The Doane family : (1) Deacon John Doane of Plymouth, (2) Doctor John Done of Maryland, and their descendants : with notes upon English families of the name. In Source:Library of Cape Cod history genealogy, specifically Early Settlers of Eastham, by Josiah Paine, p. 473 says that William Twinning [father of the William who is shown marrying this Ann Doane] was in Yarmouth by 1643, and d. 15 Apr 1652. His wife Anne d. 27 Feb 1680. That William Sr. had a wife named Anne doesn't mean William Jr. didn't marry an Ann[e] also. But it suggests a source of possible confusion, and since there are no other sources provided, confusion seems to be the best source we have. We know from various sources (e.g., Source:The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, p. 3:378-9) that William Jr. married Elizabeth Deane. The scenario involving Ann Doane would require her to die very young (age 25 or before, which may explain why there are no heirs) to make way for this other marriage. It seems like a lot of chances (birth of Ann, marriage of Ann, death of Ann) to find some evidence of her existence... --Jrich 15:36, 18 October 2008 (EDT) |
