[add comment] [edit] Kosciusko County? [5 May 2010]Searching for Andrew Piper, I hit on the Simon Piper family in Harrison twp, Kosciusko county, Indiana, in the 1860 census population schedule. This is on film M653, roll 273 p 230. it lists: Simon Piper 45 M Farmer (born)Maine Sarah Piper 40 F Ind. Salomon Piper 20 M Ind. James Piper 18 M Ind. Jesse B. Piper 15 M Ind. Andrew J. Piper 12 M Ind. Joseph A. Piper 8 M Ind. Mary J. Piper 2 F Ind. In later census replies, Andrew gave different states for his birthplace. I think I have found this same family in Harrison twp., Jefferson county, Indiana, in 1850. Andrew was in the Michigan Cavalry in the Civil War. He lived in later years with his youngest daughter, Cora, who married Otis Teeter. He and Maria moved to California before their deaths in 1936 and 1938.
[add comment] [edit] [5 December 2012]Lenawee County, Michigan: Recently, I found the index to California Deaths on microfiche, and the listing for Andrew J. Piper. The slightly smeared date seemed to me to be 20 Apr, 1936. I forwarded this information to the Grand View Volunteers, who manage his memorial on Find A Grave. Fortunately, they appear to have a better copy of the index, and they used it to find the digital image of his Death Certificate online at the Family Search site. The information, provided by his eldest son Clarence (and during the lifetime of his spouse, Maria), does show his father as Asa Piper (from unknown); and his mother as Abagal Unknown (from unknown). I hope this information is useful to you, and not just aduplication. Of course, this alters the earlier entry above.
