Change in birthyear [14 June 2012]

Sketchdon - Just curious to know if I am reading the St. James records incorrectly for Alphonz's baptism? The image shows the year 1848 at the top of the page. Perhaps these records were for Dec 1847 thru the beginning of 1848... is that what you are seeing? Also, it is perfectly fine with me if you remove my "musings" from the pages when you can replace them with your sourced facts. I will not be offended and in fact prefer to have a strong source-supported vital over one of my guesses. btw - your additions/edits are looking great and are much appreciated! :) --Cos1776 12:47, 13 June 2012 (EDT)

I'm still getting used to how things are changed and added in this wiki... so I was afraid to remove stuff yet, but thanks for saying it's OK once some things are corrected with sources.

I looked at the page again where Alphonsus' birth is listed. You're right that 1848 is at the top but the first 9 births on the page are continuations from the 1847 list. Then, there's a blank line, then "1848" again followed by births for the new year beginning in January.

Good catch. I was unaware of the Aug 1848 death record, so a birthyear of 1847 makes sense. This situation presents another good argument for including the entire page of a record in an image, instead of only a cropped portion. I have played around with it and done both in the past, so you will encounter some inconsistency in my uploads (sorry for that...). I am now a believer in full page scans, so I think most of my later uploads reflect that. It will take some work to go back and replace the older cropped record images with full pages, but I that is probably the best thing to do.
