Carpenter Family Contact? [28 April 2015]

Gayel...are you aware of any Carpenter family experts? I am looking into why there is no marker on Alma's grave. I have contacted the Village of Westfield, and the local Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, to see if they can assist. I don't see a record of a VA stone ever being issued...but that doesn't mean they didn't lose the record. Anyway, I am going to see where this takes me and wasn't sure if you knew of anyone else that works the Carpenter family line.

Have you ever order military records from National Archive? Any advice if you have?

Thanks...Dean

P.S. I did get the SUVCW to add him to the registery (even though they spelt his name wrong...right now they have his first name as Alman--working to fix that).

Hi, Dean, the only other Carpenter researchers I know of are on Ancestry.com. There are a couple there, besides you, who seem to know what they are doing. I assume you have been in contact with them.
The only Pension Files I've ordered from The National Archives have been for the Jones family, and that has been along time ago.
I would probably start with the On-line Order page. You'll need to have a user name and password -- you can register here, wait for a confirmation, and then place your order..
You've already got all the info you'll need -- the unit with which he served, and his pension application and certificate numbers (on his person page). I don't know what the cost is -- last I heard, Civil War Pension files were fairly expensive.
Actually, their web pages have been redesigned so that you no longer need specialized training to find your way around them. You can actually start on the home page, and go to Research Your Ancestry for help finding your way around.
I don't know much about ordering a gravestone, but it sounds like you have that under control.
Hope this helps. Gayel --GayelKnott 07:40, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Thank you...we will see where this goes.--Metro09 10:20, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
