Person talk:Aholiab Sawyer (2)

Baptism is not the same as birth. [18 July 2009]

Just because a person is baptized on a given date does not mean he was born on that date. Doing this can be misleading to readers of the page, since the baptism does not show up on the family page unless birth is left empty, which is probably the appropriate way to handle this case. In this particular case, Aholiab and three of his sisters were all baptized on 1 Jul 1711 per Lancaster records, so one or more of them were likely born several years prior to their baptism. Then a fifth child, William, was baptized 18 Nov 1711, suggesting he was born between the July date and the Nov date, arguing that none of the four children baptized in July were actually born in 1711. Given that his father's age at death places his birth in 1679, so the earliest likely marriage would be 1700 to allow him to attain his majority, Aholiab could feasibly be born any time in the range 1701-1710. --Jrich 21:16, 17 July 2009 (EDT)

BTW, his father is Person:William Sawyer (21). As soon as I get the alternate wife situation sorted out, I will put Aholiab in his family. --Jrich 21:17, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
