Person talk:Abraham Freer (1)

sources [17 October 2011]

For those that may wish to research further, this family is covered in Source:Doherty, Frank J. Settlers of the Beekman Patent, Dutchess County, New York, p. 5:377. A footnote on this page says that it is brief in the early generations because of the "well documented" article on "The Descendants of Hugo Freer" in Source:NYGBR (1902), p. 31 (which may be viewed here). It suggests that Hugo came to America about 1665 probably from Normandy. --Jrich 17:56, 17 October 2011 (EDT)

Caution: The NYGBR article confuses the children of Mary Haye and Jeanne Wibau. Only surviving child of Mary is Hugo, Senior. It also confuses christening dates for 3 of the children. Though no emmigration date is found, this must have occurred after marriage to Jeanne Wibau (1667) and the birth of three additional children in Mannheim, after 24 Oct 1674. Also, since Hugo married both wives in Mannheim, the possibility of Hugo's birth in Normandy, is only a slim possibility. Many dates are speculative, although original records in both Kingston and New Paltz contradict.
