Facts and Events
Birth recorded in State Archives Arad, No. 23. Came to this country and lived with her Aunt Rozalia and Uncle Conrad and cousin Conrad Keller in Rochester. Family story is that they adopted her but it is questionable that they would do that in those times. On Conrad's naturalization papers, she is listed as his daughter in 1923 when she would be 16. Her place of birth on the naturalization paper was given as Germany. She was granted citizenship by virtue of her "father's" naturalization. Katherine Wagner Keller reports that she was adopted when she was a little girl -- records show that her mother died when Zsuzsanna was only 6 years old. They lived in Germany before coming to the US. On 4 September 1921, Rosalie, along with son Konrad and adopted daughter Zusanna Szydo, arrived in New York at Ellis Island on the Mount Clay out of Hamburg, Germany. It is stated she is going to 19 Hawkins Street to her husband Konrad. She left behind her cousin Friedrick Arwa in Kolentschewo, Poland. References
