Note that his mother's maiden name is given as Runyan, which (if accurate) leads to a couple of possibilities - that his father remarried between the 1930 census and his birth, or that he was not of this family at all, even though he is listed in the same children's home as Harry, Mamie and Martha in the 1940 census.
