Facts and Events
Information is from Lillian's family tree. "Daniel Keller (Sr.) and Margaret (Eckstine) Shipman Keller continued to live in the home with Zeruiah (Starr) Keller and the children as long as they lived. After they died and before the Civil War, Zeruiah became blind. She was able to knit socks for the soldiers and her grandchildren and sew carpet strips. A granddaughter said she kept in good spirits and had a good mind and memory. Called Ruey by the family, Zeruiah's name is often misspelled in records - once even as Jeremiah. She came to Kansas with the William Keller family and died in their home near Caney, Sept. 26, 1887, and was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas. Her gravestone has her full name - Zeruiah Starr Keller." |
