Facts and Events
He was shoemaker, trader, and farmer. In 1754 he was convicted and sentenced to debtor's prison. Instead of serving, he disappeared for several years to escape his fate that might mean death inside the dark walls of an 18th century prison. Zachariah died when a mountain lion (or a panther, it is unknown) dropped from a tree onto him and his horse. He owned large tracts of land in western North Carolina, including King's Mountain, where the battle of the Revolutionary War was fought October, 1780. |
