According to David Hargreave, based on Tax Lists, only Zachariah Curtis and his brother, Joseph Curtis came to Dutchess County, NY, from Goshen, CT. David Hargreave has also found "town meeting" records which tell of Joseph Curtice's (sic) involvement with road construction in that area. "Beginning at the Little Nine Partners Line and north of the Enos Mead's house Running south of Doct's Lewis's Down to Joseph Curtice's then south of the line of Amenia Precint. Goshen, CT, is about 25 miles east of Amenia, NY, as the crow flies. (On another piece of paper I have written they are "17" miles apart.) This would explain while they frequently went back "home" for the winter and returned again in the spring to develop their property. (I do have early maps which show the locations of "Little Nine Partners" and the Amenia Precint.) Zachariah Curtis, father of Mary Ann Curtis Foster, lived for several years in Redhook, NY. Redhook is about 35 miles northwest of Amenia. (Again, no great distance.) Thoughts from MaryLu McClure, July 2008.
