Woodrow M. Queen Army veteran CANTON -- Woodrow M. Queen, of Canton, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jessie Frank and Dora Ann Dalton Queen. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europ as a tank commander. He attained the rank of sergeant and was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, EAMET Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and The Purple Heart with one oak leaf cluster. He retired from Champion International and was a Champion Oldtimer.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Queen. Surviving are his wife, Arizona Stockton Queen; one son, Michael Queen of Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Daphne Smathers of Canton; one brother, Robert Queen of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crawford/Ray Funeral Home. The Dr. Rev. Rick Gosnell will officiate. Burial will be in Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5202. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 31 College Place, Asheville, NC, 28801[Cannon 2000.FTW]
