Winifred Ivy Woodcraft was born on 31st December 1906 at Shenleybury in Shenley, Hertfordshire, daughter of Elena Maria Woodcraft, formerly Grey, and her husband Francis Woodcraft, a farm labourer. Shortly after Winifred's birth the family moved to the Luton area, where she appears in the 1911 census living with her parents and siblings at Dunstable Road in Leagrave.
In 1929 Winifred married Arthur George Maddock. They appear to have had three children. At the outbreak of the Second World War, Winifred and Arthur were living at 17 Clifton Road in Luton. Arthur was working as a straw plait bleacher and serving as an air raid warden. Winifred's sister Dorothy lived next door at 15 Clifton Road with her husband Arthur Edward (Eddie) Cox and children.
Winifred's husband Arthur died in 1964. He died in hospital in London, but immediately before his death had still been living at 17 Clifton Road in Luton.
Winifred's sister Dorothy died in 1968, and in 1970 Winifred married her late sister's widower Eddie Cox.
Winifred died in 1996, aged 89. Eddie outlived her by six years.
