Winfield's father had been married previously. When his first wife, Margaret, died he married her sister. Ultimately Margaret's children were being raised by both their Aunt and their stepmother who was, in fact, the same person.
Additionally after Israel and Phoebe had children, it meant that Margaret's children were not only their cousins but their half-siblings too.

Winfield Grenoble, of Lebanon, formerly of Gettysburg, has been commissioned a Captain in the U.S. Quartermaster Corps and has been assigned to duty as an assistant depot quartermaster at El Paso, Texas.
Served as a Major in the Quartermaster Corps, US Army during WW I.
