Military: Private, Co F, 59 Regiment, Ohio Infantry. Enlisted 7 Oct 1861 [Capt T. M. Lewis] for 3 years; transferred April 1862 to 88th Co, 2nd Btn, V. R. C. Malarial poisining at Pittsburg Landing, TN - causing deafness & liver damage. Musket ball in foot Jan 3, 1863; gunshot wound left hand Jan 14, 1863; gunshot wound in arm 25 Jan 1863. Entered Camp Hospital, Camp Dennison, OH Dec 31 1862- Aug 1863; deserted 31 Mar 1863 - returned 2 Apr 1863. Gunshot wound 31 Sep 1863 at Battle of Stone River. Deafness began 2 days after Battle of Shilo [sic]. Transferred to Invalid Detachment 5 Apr 1863 - on duty with Invalid Detachment 11 Nov 1863. Discharged 8 Oct 1864 at end of term of service. Dates are not consistent on pension records - all wounds seem to be from Battle of Stone River, which was Dec 1862. Listed as totally disabled 1891 - deafness, rheumatism.
