Facts and Events
Gustin had apparently immigrated to Paris, France as a young man and became an accomplished composer of Church Music. He married Florine a French National. They lived in Paris until shortly after WW2 when raging post war inflation dissipated much of their wealth. Gustin and Florine moved to New Orleans with their remaining assets converted to jewelry etc. and lived there until Gustin died. I believe he obtained employment writing music for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Grace Blake went down to New Orleans and lived with Florine apparently cleaning up estate matters then returned to Chicago, I believe with Florine. She lived with Grace, Helen, Jim and Ken at 1630 E. 86th Place, Chicago for a year or so. She use to call Grace's German Shepherd, Duke, by the name of Gregory. In fact, she called all pets Gregory. Somewhere along the line, Florine ended up with Gustin's relatives in Detroit. Grace and Nancy Werntz (ie Popham) traveled to Detroit and "kidnapped" (just kidding) and returned her to Chicago. Basically, what this involved was control over Florine's assets which I believed amounted to some $20,000 or so. The Detroit relatives took it to court but Grace ultimately won the case (ie defended successfully). Copies of his sheet music for his renditions of the "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicus" state the following information: "Honorary Organist of the CATHEDRAL DE BEAUVAIS * BEAUVAIS EGLISE DE PASSY * ST. LOUIS DES INVALIDES PARIS COMMANDER OF THE ORDER OF ST. GREGORY
