1880, 30 August - Joined the Essex Police. 1881 - Unmarried and living alone at the Police Station in Brentwood. Aged 20. 1883, 2 October - Resigned from the Essex Police. 1884, 18 February - Joined Metropolitan Police - constable, "G" division. 1889, 28 August - Constable (CID) in "G" division. 1891, 2 October - Promoted to Sergeant (3rd class) CID "N" division. 1895, 8 November - Moved to "F" division, Sergeant (3rd class) CID. 1898, 22 June - Promoted to Sergeant (2nd class) CID "A" division. 1899, 20 March - Disciplined - "showing want of diligence and of general efficiency in the performance of his duties". Reverted to Sergeant (3rd class) CID with "A" division. 1901 - Living in St George Hanover Square with wife and two children. Detective sergeant with the Metropolitan Police. 1906, 6 March - Moved to "E" division - Sergeant (3rd class) CID. 1906, 10 May - Promoted to Sergeant (2nd class) CID "A" division. 1910, 17 April - Retired with pension after 26 years service.
