Advisory

Some researchers and published works [including Waddell's Annals of Augusta County, Virginia] claim that William Winter had a daughter, Elizabeth Winter that married Abraham Lincoln, grandfather of President Abraham Lincoln. This appears to be "family tradition" and is not supported by records. In fact, the Bellefonte, PA Public Library has entries from the family bible of John Winter. There is no mention of Elizabeth Winter as the daughter of William Winter and his first wife Ann Boone Winter who died in 1771. There is an entry that says Susannah Winter married Hananiah Lincoln.
