He is so indicated by his death certificate and appears in the 1855 Census (line 20) living with his widowed father and grandmother, but no birth record has been located and in 1850 census (line 41) he is listed as William H. Bacon. It is not clear from the records if this is a census taker's error, or if he was adopted some time after 1850.
