Facts and Events
From the web pages of Mary Ellis: "Tom was hit by a car driven by Dr. Knight the Cone Mills White Oak Plant company doctor. Dr. Knight had one of the first Ford Cars in the area. He was crossing the road carrying a can of kerosene when hit. His health was bad from there on and he never worked again. Daisy, his wife, saved money to buy a house on Burlington Road. She gave Tom the money to go make a down payment on the house, he left home with the money but instead of making the down payment on the house he bought two mules. (Mary Murray Wrenn 8/22/99)
Tom was sitting by an open fire and his clothing caught fire and burned him severely. He then died from pneumonia." |
