According to the CD, Massachusetts Vital Records, 1600's - 1800's, and the CD, Early Vital Records of Essex County, Massachusetts to about 1850, the Webb's had primarily lived in Salem, Essex County, Massachetts since 1629. Most of the HOLLAND'S lived in Ipswich, Massachusetts, a nearby town in Essex County Essex county, Mass. is the adjacent county to Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Portsmouth is in Rockingham County. Until 1741, New Hampshire and Massachuttes both had the same Governor. Using the History of Salem, MA; Vol 3 (1671 - 1716) for Essex County Births and Marriages - William Webb shows as being a private in the New Hampshire Militia at Fort William and Mary at New Castle, NH, at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour, from 1767 to 1768. He was also on the 1778 muster roll as having listed April 10, 1778. References
