Bio: Graduating from Hamilton College, he was admitted to the bar in 1858 and began practice in Syracuse. He was mayor of Syracuse 1873-1874, US District judge of the northern district of New York 1874-1882 and US circuit judge of the second judicial circuit until 1903.He had four children, all who died in infancy. He is survived by an adoped daughter, Madeleine Adair Wallace.
