William Walby was baptised on 23rd January 1712 at Aston in Hertfordshire, son of Mary Walby, formerly Smith, and her husband George Walby, a butcher. William was the second of three boys. When William was only three years old his father died.

William took up his late father's trade, becoming a butcher. He never married. He died aged 41, being buried at Aston on 7th July 1753. His mother outlived him, administering his estate after his death.
