WILLIAM WEIR TULLOCH, of a family belonging to Orkney; educated at Univ. of Edinburgh : became tutor in the family of Grant of Kilgraston ; licen. by Presb. of Perth 29th Aug. 1821 ; pros, by William IV. 3rd May 1832; orcl. 24th Jan. 1833. Fearing charges of a serious nature [alleged forgery] were about to be brought against him, he res. 22nd Nov., and taking passage in the ship United States from Liverpool to New York, perished with all on board in a terrific gale, on or about 19th Dec. 1844. He marr. Elizabeth (died 25th July 1852), daugh. of Peter M Laren, farmer, Kirk Dron, and had issue John Grant, D.D., LL.D., Principal of St Mary s College. St Andrews [q.v.], born at Dron, 1st June 1823; Francis Grant (twin), born 1st June 1823; Peter M Laren, born 30th April 1826; William, born 3rd March 1829; Dewar Lauder, born 10th Dec. 1831 ; Agnes Jane, born 20th Oct. 1839.
