new date; Died August 9, 1898 William enlisted in General Lee's Army of Northern Va on April 16, 1862. In the spring of 1865 he returned home and began farming near Walker Creek. Mary Ann, ill with encephalitis, died three years after the Civil War. After the death of Mary Ann, William married Laura Ann Underwood Wilson. William was 44 year old and Laura was 26 at the time of their marriage. William was captured during the battle at Fisher's Hill, Va and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland. William had previously served with company C, of the 86th Virginia Militia.
