John William Thomson was son of William Aird Thomson and Margaret Fraser (S. Lumsden). William Aird Thomson was minister of (1) Dalziel, (2) Middle Kirk, Perth, (3) Free Church there, d. 17mar1863, age 91; in 1833 D.D. was conferred “at the request of Lord Moncrieff” (Glasgow University records). John Thomson and Helen Forrest, marr (8mar1802) Margaret Fraser (d. 10sep1844), dau of Luke Fraser. William and Margaret had a son, Rev. John William Thomson (30dec1802-1oct1864), who marr Janet Moncrieff (abt 1811-16oct1841) 20jun1831. John was educ at St. Andrews Univ., became min of Moneydie in 1828 and joined Free Church in 1843.
