!BIRTH-MILITARY: State of Louisiana, Secretary of State, Division of Archives; Baton Rouge, LA; SOLDIER'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION; No. 6394, filed 12 Oct 1908. Wm. B. THERIOT, born in Patterson, St. Mary parish, LA, now resident there, was in Cornay's Battery as a Confederate soldier, enlisted on 7 Feb 1861 until the close of the war, when he was located in Navara [sic, for Navarro] county, TX. He lists his date of birth as "Jany. 7th 1839" [smudged, but 1839 written clearly above]. He served under F. O. Corney [sic], Captain; Minos T. GORDY & John FOOTE, Lieutenants. He was not wounded. He was a widower with two living children (of 7 born to him), both girls aged 30 & 33, dated 8 Oct 1908, and signed William B. Theriot. He claimed a disability of old age, weak eyes, and rheumatism, at age 69. The War Department in Washington sent a letter dated 24 Oct 1908 to the Louisiana Board of Pension Examiners: Belisaire THERIOT, private, 1st Field Battery (Captain Florian O. CORNAY's Company), Louisiana Artillery, Confederate States Army, enlisted 7 Oct [year not stated]. He is reported on the roll for Nov & Dec 1861 (the only roll on file). Recorded in St. Joseph Church, Patterson, St. Mary parish, LA (Patterson Ch.: v. 1, p. 119). !NAME-MARRIAGE: Spelled Belizaire, sometimes with accent mark over first E. Early in life known only as Belisaire. Signed marriage certificate Belaizare Theriot. Recorded in vol. 1, p. 119 of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson, LA. THERIOT, from St. Mary Parish, LA, age 72 [so born around 1839], enlisted from LA, in Regiment St. Mary Cann, Co[mpany] ?. His livelihood is "Sugar worker;" infirmities lists "Rheumatism." Recorded on reel 4.2. !DEATH: Louisiana State Archives, Death Index; 1900-1929, K-Z; W. B. THERIOT, age 80 years, died on 13 Dec 1918; recorded in parish #51, vol. 51, Certificate No. 23355. THERIOT was a white male, widower, age 80, born in Patterson, son of Zephron [sic] THERIOT & Tersille RENTROP, both also born in Patterson, LA [sic]. He died of apoplexy on 13 Dec 1918 at 9 a.m. He was buried on 14 [?] Dec in the Catholic cemetery in Patterson. Informant was his daughter Mrs. Joe DREYER. !PROBATE: St. Mary Parish Courthouse, 23rd Judicial District Court; Succession No. 3750, in St. Mary Parish Original Estates, vol. 131, part 2; 3-page photocoy in possession of Karen Theriot Reader. William B. THERIOT and his wife Delezan HAYES THERIOT, both deceased. Petition by Lelia M. THERIOT, wife of Ed. LeNORMAND, and of Effie THERIOT, wife of Joseph DREYER, with their husbands, all of age and residents of Patterson, St. Mary Parish, LA, to be recognized as the sole heirs of their parents who died intestate. William B. THERIOT died at his domicile in Patterson on 13 Dec 1918; his wife Delezan HAYES died there 26 Jan 1907. The mother left a lot of 14 acres of land with buildings which she purchased from Desire HAYS on 17 Jun 1871, recorded in Conveyance Book Q, p. 645, No. 12,057. It was about 1 mile below Patterson, on the west side of the Atchafalaya River, between the river and the track of the New Orleans, Opelousas and Great Western Railroad. Bounded above by part of the Patterson Foundry and in part by Estate of D. D. RICHARDSON; below by McCLEERY. There would be no inheritance taxes, since value was less than $1000. It was signed by Mrs. Effie Theriot Dreyer on 5 Feb 1919. The Judge ordered the two heirs to share equally, signed 7 Feb 1919. References
