The Clarion Democrat - Tuesday, October 22, 1925
When the news was sent out that William Taylor, one of the oldest citizens of Beaver Township, had passed away to the next world, a feeling of sadness spread throughout that section of the county and wherever he was known. Everyone who knew him loved him for the excellent traits of character he possessed and the useful and helpful life he lived in the community. He was a profound Christian and was regarded as one of the most exemplary men everywhere. He was a practical demonstration of the beauty and virtue of a Christian life. His death was caused by a complication of diseases due to old age. William Taylor was born on November 26, 1839*, in Beaver Township**, where he lived all of his life. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Taylor. He grew to manhood and followed farming as his occupation all of his life and he has been a good one. On July 4, 1866, he was married to Miss Clara Thompson, in Licking Township, Clarion County. Mrs. Taylor died about 35 years ago, leaving her husband and the following children, R. F. and Harvey Taylor, both of Altoona, and T. C. and Samuel M. Taylor, both of Beaver Township. A daughter, Mrs. Reuben S. Best, died about eight years ago. He is also survived by six grandchildren and two brothers, Thomas Taylor, of Emlenton, and John Taylor of Butler. About 25 years ago, Mr. Taylor married Sarah Fowles, and she survives. In public affairs, Mr. Taylor was a broad-spirited citizen and gave faithful service to his township as road supervisor, in which he exercised excellent judgement. In all other affairs, he always stood for progressive ideas and the best interest of the township. He also proved his good citizenship by enlisting in the army and serving in the Civil War. The deceased was a devoted and faithful member of Mt. Joy M. E. Church and was a steadfast Christian worker, and it was proper and right that his funeral should be held in the church he loved and served so long. Rev. Miller I. Harding, a former pastor, and Kenneth C. Moors, his present pastor, conducted the services. Interment was made in Mt. Joy Cemetery.
Death certificate gives age as 85 years, 10 months and 11 days - *November 25, 1838, in **Centre County, the son of Robert Taylor & Margaret Griffin. Wife was informant. Buried on October 8, 1925.
