William Jett Tapp was a wealthy man. He died from a sneak bite. He left an estate with many slaves consisted of 1943 acres of land, valued at $20,482.75, in Culpeper County, Virginia, in the vicinity of Amissville near the Rappahannock County line. His son, Armistead, and Son-in-Law, Richard T. Basye (husband of Mary Tapp Basye), were appointed administrators of William's estate.
