REFN: 29 d. William Stamps married Ellinor Brent on Nov. 14, 1750. Charles Chowning consented on behalf of William Stamps. Catherine Brent consented on behalf of her daughter. Robert Brent and Jesse Carter were sureties. Je sse Carter was the son of Theodrick Carter III.1 Ellinor Brent was the daugh ter of James and Catherine Brent. Another source states that William Stamps married Ellinor Brent on Oct. 17, 1757.2 The will of James Brent, dated April 19, 1750, was probated May 11, 1750 in Lancaster County. The will of Catheri ne Brent, dated Sept. 06, 1760, was probated in Lancaster County on February 20, 1761; and among other things provided "I lent to Mr. William Stamps and m y daughter Ellinor my negro fellow, etc, and after their death to their child ren." William Stamps was a captain in the Lancaster Militia during the Indian Wars. In 1754, he was security for the marriage of John Smith and Ann Neasu m. Thomas Crow appointed as his attorney-in-fact "his trusty friend" William Stamps, of Goochland County, to act in his absence for anything that may be due him from his grandfather's estate.3 On Oct. 01, 1757 he witnessed the ma rriage of Robert Burton and Judith LeForde in Bedford County. In 1762 Willia m Stamps of Bedford County purchased from John Woodson, of Goochland County, 100 acres in Goochland County. On Oct. 20, 1763, Stockly Towles, executor of the estate of Catherine Brent, executed a deed of gift, recorded Oct. 21, 176 3 in Lancaster Co., to Mrs. Elinor Stamps of Bedford County, negroes in the p ossession of Captain William Stamps and her daughters Catherine and Mary Stam ps. The will of Stockley Brent, brother to Elinor Stamps, dated Nov. 20, 176 4, recorded in Lancaster County on June 17, 1765, made bequests to his niec es Catherine and Mary Stamps and to his nephews John and Newton Stamps. In 1 763 William Stamps was appraiser in the estate of Benjamin Davis of Bedford C ounty and in 1763 he furnished the suit bond in the case of James Maze and Jo hn Lewis, in Bedford County. Between 1762 and 1767 there are ten deeds on re cord in Bedford County involving William Stamps. In 1766 he purchased 1020 a cres in Birch Creek in Halifax County and in 1768, he purchased 500 acres on Tuckahoe Creek, where William Harding lived, from Edward Carter of Spottsylva nia County, VA. William Stamps died in 1768. The Douglas Register reads:4 "Capt.
