Rev. William Speer (1652-?) was born in Aryshire, Scotland and immigratedto County Antrim, Northern Ireland where his son John Speer (1693-1764)and grandson John (William?) Speer (1723-1771) were born. Rev. William'sfive great-grandsons, William, Sr. (1747-1830), John (1748-1842),Alexander, Joseph, and James, all born in Ireland, immigrated to Americain the late 1700's. William, Sr. was a half brother to brothers John,Alexander, Joseph, and James. Eventually they all settled in thesouthern United States, primarily in Georgia and South Carolina wheretheir families prospered and grew large. Although nothing is known about the families of Joesph or James, thefamilies of Wiliam, Sr. , John and Alexander are well documented; somebranches of all thre families moved on to Alabama, Texas and Florida inthe 180's where again large families were established. As of August2000, my geneology list covers 13 generations with over 5,500individuals, both past and present, related to our earliest known Speer. As of August 2000, my genealogy list covers 13 generations with over 5,500 individuals, both past and present, related to our earliest known Speer.
