Facts and Events
There is a , listed in the 1850 Chickasaw County, MS Census as William Shaw, age 6, born SC. Living with William (Elias' father) and family. Elias was between wives at this point, so I think he must have split up his children amongst family. Listed in the 1860 Walker County, Texas Census as William Shaw, age 15, born GA. With father, step-mother, and siblings. Listed in the 1870 Walker County, Texas Census, Precinct 3, enumerated July 30th, page 362B, Dwelling 331, Household 331 as William Shaw, age 26, farmer, born GA. With Mary, age 23, born LA; Mary, age 4, born TX; Sarah, age 1, born TX. Living next door to Elias and family. There's another William, age 25, born GA, listed in the same census, Dwelling and Household 336. Not sure which is the correct William. According to spreng@@acmewebpages.com, "William F Shaw served in the Texas Confederate Army during the Civil War. His leg was injured when a cannon ball was dropped while being loaded onto a wagon. The wound was never properly treated and remained unhealed until just before his death, nearly 60 years later." |
