nephew of Henry Sharp, who married Barbara Graves.

Source: Every Name Index to "Early Settlers of Claiborne County," by P. G. Fulkerson as published in the Tazewell-New Tazewell Observer, October 1, 1980 issue. Wm. Sharp came to Tennessee from New River, Virginia. It is claimed that his grandfather had seven sons, six of whom were in Washington's Army, and the remaininng one in the British Army during the Revolution. This last one was killed at the close of the war. Wm Sharp came to this county (Claiborne) and settled on the Henderson and Company grant in Powell Valley in 1802. Many of his descendants still live there.

December 1803 session -- ordered that a road be reviewed and laid out from old town creek where the road crosses it to the Andeson line in Powel's Valley... to be done by Wm. Sharp, among others. Wm. Sharp serve as juror.
