BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: After the death of their father, Peter Sellers, in 1807 and their grandfather, Adam Sellers, in 1821, William's sister, Elizabeth, had married William A. Cameron and had what was stated in Warren County, Ohio, court records as "a large sum of money, the proceeds of the sale of lands that she inherited from her father". To preserve the money, Elizabeth 'gave' the money to William to hold in trust until she might need it. In the meantime, William (with Elizabeth's permission) bought land in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio, on April 18, 1822, from George Mix and had a deed made for the property. The plan was for William to hold the deed for Elizabeth until she desired that he convey it to her. William held the deed for 22 years until his death on July 1, 1844. At that time, an inventory was taken of William's estate and papers and the deed from 1822 for land bought for Elizabeth with Elizabeth's money could not be found. As such, a suit was entered by Elizabeth against William's estate in order for the property to be recognized as hers by the court and turned over to her. In the suit the names of William's surviving children were noted:

"... the said William Sellers left a widow, Maria M. Sellers, and his children, Eliza Eldrid, married to Stephen Eldrid, Cynthia A. Ogden, married to Thomas Ogden, Caroline M. Sellers, Anna M. Sellers, William H. Sellers, George H. Sellers".
From the suit we are able to confirm the names of William's children that he had with his two wives, Parthena Harrison and her sister, Maria M. Harrison.

In the end, the deed William had made was found, and the Warren County, Ohio, court ordered the Executors of William's estate to either pay his sister, Elizabeth (Sellers) Cameron, the money she was owed or to release the property William had purchased with her money over to Elizabeth herself.

BURIAL: Buried in the Pioneer Cemetery, Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio, between his first wife, Parthena (Harrison) Sellers, and his daughter from his second marriage, Anna Maria Smith. Anna Maria's mother was Maria M. Harrison, whom William married 15 April 1829.

GRAVESTONE: William's gravestone reads, "In Memory of William Sellers who departed this life July 1, 1844, Aged 47 years, 6 months & 27 days".

CENSUS 1840: Household of William Sellers found in Turtle Creek Township, Warren County, Ohio. Census enumeration date is unknown but is found on Page 138A, Line 11.
